James Dixon “Jimmy” Barnes is an Australian rock vocalist of Scottish origin.
Why did Jimmy Barnes change his name?
After Jimmy’s father passed away, his mother Dorothy remarried a man named Reg Barnes. To avoid confusion, Dorothy decided to have all of her kids’ last names changed to Barnes.
In 1973, Barnes began an apprenticeship with the South Australian Railways in a foundry, but his passion for music and that of his brother inspired him to join a band.
Less than a month after the Cold Chisel’s Last Stand tour concluded in December 1983, Barnes began his solo career.
More than any other artist, Barnes has had 15 solo albums debut at number one in Australia.
Barnes’ upcoming eighteenth solo studio album, My Criminal Record, was revealed in January 2019. It becomes available on May 17, 2019.
Barnes claimed to have started a rockabilly band in 2021 with Chris Cheney and Slim Jim Phantom.
