Alexander Myint San Aung Aris alias Alexander Aris is the elderly son of Aung San Suu Kyi and Michael Aris and the grandson of Aung San who was known for achieving the independence of Myanmar yet assassinated six months before independence thus, 1947.
Alexander Aris was born on April 12, 1973, in London, United Kingdom but his family home is in Park Town, North Oxford. He has a younger brother who was born in the year 1977.
A year after their mother left their home in Oxford to take care of her dying mother in Burma, Alexander and his brother were both stripped of their Burmese citizenship by the military government in 1989 because the two brothers were British nationals.
Why Did Alexander Aris Receive The Noble Peace Prize On Behalf Of His Mother?
In 1991, Alexander’s mother Aung San Suu Kyi won the Noble Peace Prize for her efforts in Burma but Alexander Aris at the age of 18, and his brother at the age of 14 had to accept the Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of their mother.
And this was because she was under detention by the Burmese Government and was unable to accept it personally by attending the ceremony in Oslo.
