Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941, in the town of Akebono-Cho in Bunkyō, Tokyo, the second of four sons.
His father, Katsuji Miyazaki (born 1915), was the director of Miyazaki Airplane, his brother’s company, which manufactured rudders for fighter planes during World War II. The business allowed his family to remain affluent during Miyazaki’s early life.
Why are Miyazaki movies so good?
His movies are so good because Miyazaki does not underestimate the intelligence of children or their powers of understanding.
Characters in films like Castle in the Sky are not protected from the horrors of life they experience loss and sadness as well as joy, despair as well as hope, in a way that is relatable for both children and adults.
The stories he animates may be full of whimsy, but the Japanese genius is a hard taskmaster who sets exacting standards for himself, his peers, and studio staff
Hayao Miyazaki has been rightly feted as the world’s leading director and creator of animated films.
