Football coaches are wearing brown today to honor the contributions of the military veterans. It is part of NFL Salute To Service Campaign.
Every season, from week 9 to week 11, the League asks its franchises to dedicate at least one home game that is closer to Veterans Day which is observed on 11 November. The teams conduct various activities to recognize the service of the veteran service members.
On the particular home game, the coaches put on their own camouflage hoodies, jackets, sweatshirts, and caps, and various sports personnel as well as ex-military people as well as their families participate in different activities conducted on the Field.
Over the years, the League has always been upfront in recognizing and honoring the services of the service members and has been raising funds in collaboration with various social welfare organizations to help the war victims.
The League raises those funds through the sales of various camouflage gear from its official store and donates all the income to charity without profiting from the sales.
In previous weeks, various teams wore flag decals and logos to celebrate international diversity and honor the origin of the players, and coaches.

Origin Of Camo Tradition In NFL
NFL coaches wearing brown gear began with the launch of the Salute To Service Campaign in 2011. The League partnered with USAA to incept it.
The motive of the establishment during the inception years was to honor and appreciate military veterans in a variety of ways possible.
Under this campaign, the league started to organize and conduct month-long honorary-themed games asking the teams to don on camouflage-themed gear with a prime motto of empowering, connecting, and honoring active military members, veterans, and their families.
The league partners with various organizations including the United Service Organization (USO), the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), and the Pat Tillman Foundation (PTF), and raises funds to help the military war victims and their families.
Through the partnership and the campaign, it has successfully raised more than $65 million for those collaborative organizations to help improve the independence of the wounded soldiers and promote their prosperity within the community.
As a part of the program, the league sells various military-themed gear and asks the team staff to put on such clothing on the sideline and help promote the theme.
Since the time of the inception, Week 9 to all of Week 11, the football field sidelines across the country appear brownish and camoish.
The USAA is among the boarding partners of the campaign and hosts various boot camps in various military installations across the world where the participating members have to go through drills similar to NFL Combine and scouting.
Other programs in the campaign include ribbon football, camouflage equipment for players, and more through which the collaborative teams continue to impact the lives of soldiers in many ways.
Why Are Football Teams Wearing Brown?
Football teams are wearing brown in order to celebrate Veterans Day and as a gesture of honor to military veterans and service members.
Not every member of a team will put on camouflage but the football coaches and other coaching staffs appear on the sideline donning the military-themed clothes.
The coaching staff has been wearing camouflage hoodies, sweatshirts, jackets, caps, and similar uniforms during their home game near the Veterans Day celebration every year.
The League has named it the Salute To Service campaign and the teams can choose which home game to dedicate for the program.
During the dedicated game, they organize and perform various activities in respect of the service members and military personnel and support them in every way possible.
The franchises, their members, and as well as fans appear in military-themed gear throughout the game and help the league to serve the motive of the Salute To Service program.
The players on the field don’t cover themselves wholly in the brown color as they have to put on team jerseys while on the field but can still wear hoodies and jackets outside the field to promote and support the campaign.
Among other teams, the Jets and Cowboys have always stepped ahead actively in celebrating the league’s game for a cause event. The Cowboys, which is also among the most popular franchises in America, is set to observe the military-themed game on 12 November.
They always celebrate the whole week leading to Veterans Day. In the 2022 season, they organized a special Halloween Trick-Or-Treat Tour of The Star for military and veteran families in Frisco and provided access to the National Medal of Honor Viewing Center.
Besides, they also actively participate in organizing career development workshops and job fairs for military and veteran spouses to provide them with better opportunities for fostering their personality as well as career and also host a military day at training camps.
