According to the county coroner and the district, a Dillon County School District Four principal was shot to death this weekend.
As per the Dillon County Sheriff’s Office, Southwind Road was contacted overnight on Saturday, August 20, in the Dillon area, about 60 miles northwest of Myrtle Beach. WMBF said Cook was discovered dead at the scene.

Obituary: Who Was Wendy Cook?
The district announced Cook’s death on its Facebook page Monday, using his name, picture, and title. Wendy was a well-liked elementary school principal at Stewart Heights Elementary School, South Carolina, who was renowned for bringing her dynamic personality to her work.
In a statement released late on Monday, state superintendent of schools Molly Spearman expressed her “sadness” over Cook’s passing.
According to Spearman, “coworkers and friends in the Dillon County School District 4 talk highly of her leadership of the school and the numerous positive impacts she had on the staff and students. The entire Dillon school community has my sincere condolences as they grieve this loss.”
Cook was getting ready for a new school year at Stewart Heights just days before the shooting, with students reporting for the first day of classes on August 15, 2022. In a back-to-school letter to parents earlier this month, she said, “I hope you have had a peaceful and relaxing summer.”
Moreover, the Cooper Funeral Home in Dillon will hold Cook’s funeral tomorrow (Wednesday, August 24, 2022) at 5:00 p.m. EDT.
Wendy Cook, South Carolina Elementary School Principal Shot To Death
The church is accused of killing Cook early on Sunday, August 21, 2022, on his mother’s property on Southwind Road, about two miles south of Dillon.
He is currently being held at the Dillon County detention facility pending a bond hearing before an S.C. circuit court judge after being charged with murder and possessing a weapon during a violent crime.
The church is presumed innocent until the criminal justice system finds them guilty, just like anyone accused of committing any crime. William B. Rogers Jr., an attorney for the South Carolina fourth circuit, will be the one to try his case, which is likely to garner considerable national attention.
According to Dillon County sheriff’s deputies, Cook and Church were friends. The depth of their relationship hasn’t been discussed, and neither has a potential motive for the murder.
Additionally, there are rumors that Cook and Church were romantically involved. While their relationship’s origins are still a matter of gossip, for the time being, its abrupt end has made headlines outside of this 6,200-person town near the North Carolina border off of Interstate 95.

Kyle Church Arrested In Connection With Wendy Cook’s Death
According to Douglas Pernell, sheriff of Dillon County, authorities were called to an address on Southwind Road near Dillon at around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday and later arrested Kyle Church. Except for the fact that he is 31 years old, little is known about him now.
Likewise, he is also accused of possessing a weapon while committing a violent crime, but the reason for killing Wendy is unknown.
However, the court’s ultimate judgment has not yet been made public. If he is found guilty of murdering the principal of an elementary school in South Carolina, he will be imprisoned without the chance of parole.
