Who was the Moors Murderers first victim?

Ian Brady and Myra Hindley’s first victim was Pauline Reade, 16, who disappeared on her way to a dance on July 12, 1963.

Pauline, a schoolmate of Hindley’s sister Maureen, was abducted after Hindley offered to give her a lift on Foxmer Street in Gorton.

Once inside the van Hindley asked if she would help her look for an expensive glove she claimed to have lost on Saddleworth Moor.

Brady subsequently arrived on his motorcycle and cited he would be helping with the search. Brady then took Pauline onto the remote moor where he raped and murdered her before burying her body using a shovel he’d hidden earlier.

Between 1963 and 1965, Ian Brady and Myra Hindley tortured and murdered five children between the ages of 10 and 17. They were; Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey and Edward Evans.

Lesley Ann was the first victim to be found on Saddleworth Moor after police received a tip-off from one of Brady’s neighbours, and subsequent searches of the area unearthed the remains of Pauline and John.

The pair were caught after Hindley’s brother-in-law witnessed the murder of Edward and reported it to police, who found his body at Brady and Hindley’s shared home in Hyde, Greater Manchester.

Brady and Hindley have been dubbed as “the evilest duo in Britain” due to their string of murders in the 1960s.

Hindley died in prison in 2002 at the age of 60 and Brady died in 2017, at Ashworth, aged 79.
