Who Was Painter Wayne Thiebaud?
Wayne Thiebaud was born in New York City on November 15, 1920. He was an American painter most known for his bright paintings of everyday objects.
He was born to Morton and Alice Thiebaud. They relocated to Southern California a year later, where he spent the majority of his life until he graduated from high school in Long Beach, California.
After being exposed to the concept of cooperatives in New York, he co-founded the Artists Cooperative Gallery, now known as Artists Contemporary Gallery, and other cooperatives such as Pond Farm.
Wayne is identified with the pop art movement because of his interest in famous culture artifacts, even though his early works, created in the 1950s and 1960s, predate the results of the great pop artists by a few years.
His work depicts his themes with thick pigment and exaggerated hues, and the well-defined shadows typical of advertisements are almost always present.
Wayne Thiebaud, who painted shadows better than anyone, was such a gifted still-life painter that even avant-gardists eventually fell in love with his undisguisedly sweet subjects. He died yesterday, at age 101. RIP pic.twitter.com/a8nyaIOr3h
