Kya Davey, a mother of two, passed away at the age of 33 from an aortic rupture due to the negligence of Shellharbour hospital.
Her family was horrified to hear that medical documents outlining what went wrong didn’t even exist until 14 weeks after they had filed an official complaint with the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.
The most incriminating five pages were even missing when they eventually acquired them, according to Kya’s husband.
Who Was Kya Davey? What Happened To Her?
Kya Davey was a mother of two who passed away at the age of 33 due to a hospital’s negligence. A few years prior, she had received a diagnosis of Marfan Syndrome, a rare multi-systemic genetic illness that weakens the connective tissue.
A sore back forced Kya to drive over to Shellharbour Hospital, the nearest hospital from her family’s home. The family stated that within two hours of their arrival, medical personnel discovered a life-threatening emergency – a rip in her aorta.
Shellharbour Hospital failed to inform them that she could get care at Wollongong Hospital, which was only a little more than 20 minutes away.
After the initial screening, Kya and her family were kept waiting for nine hours, during which time her organ started to slowly shut down.
The young mother of two underwent an approximately eleven-hour surgery, and a few hours later she passed away.
Two weeks later, the medical professionals who treated Kya Davey admitted that she required emergency surgery at a different hospital.
Insight On Kya Davey Husband Daniel Davey And Her Family
Following a more than ten-year relationship, Kya Davey married her husband Daniel Davey less than a year ago in 2021. They had two sons, Caleb, 6, and Jackson, 8, and were a close-knit family.
The loss of their mother was difficult for her two boys to process. To help deal with her absence, the family presented the boys with two teddy bears and a note that they said was written by their mother.
They clutch their teddy bears every night before going to bed, according to Kya’s husband, who claimed that it’s the only connection they currently have to their mother.
Even though there is no certainty Kya would have survived, her family insists she had a shot and says an overburdened healthcare system robbed her of it.
