Champion diver, automobile and motorcycle racer, and swimmer, Kitty O’Neil excelled in all three sports. She loved moving quickly.
She became a stuntwoman in television and movies due to her athletic prowess and eagerness to take on new tasks.
O’Neil was the first woman to be accepted into Stunts Unlimited (1976), a group of the best stunt performers in Hollywood.
She never let her acute hearing loss as a baby gets in the way of her goals. According to The Chicago Tribune, O’Neil declared to a class in 1979 at the Holy Trinity School for the Deaf in Chicago that “Deaf people can do anything.”
She counseled pupils to never allow hearing loss to limit their ability to live their life.
“When I was 18, I was informed that because I was deaf, I couldn’t find employment. To prove to them that I am capable of anything, I said, “One day, I’m going to be famous in sports”, she said.
