The California Highway Patrol officers got called to a solo-vehicle crash on Oak Street around 5:15 pm, on Friday. The officers determined that Ransom was the victim, and he suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
After the tragic shooting, Gene crashed into a guardrail and stopped. The officers launched an investigation and immediately closed the northbound lanes for around five hours.

The suspect, Juan Angel Garcia, was taken into custody without incident on Saturday. He is a 25-year-old man from San Francisco. He got booked on suspicion of murder at the Alameda County Jail.
Gerrit Van Genderen, the Cal Athletics assistant director of communications, issued a statement and shared his condolences to Gene’s family and friends.
