South African rapper and composer Costa Titch passed away at a music festival in Johannesburg, according to sources, bringing a devastating end to an exciting musical performance.
When playing one of his songs, the 27-year-old passed out on stage. Afterward, he rose up and resumed his performance before passing away again. There hasn’t been any formal confirmation of his death as of yet.
Following the news, a number of public figures—including Julius Sello Malema, a member of the South African parliament—politicians, musicians, celebrities, and others—have offered their sympathies.
Costa Titch was performing at the Ultra South Africa music event in Johannesburg when the incident happened.
Who was Costa Titch?
The young South African artist’s original name was Costa Tsobanoglou. Costa Titch, as he was affectionately known, was a native of Mbombela, a town close to Mozambique and Swatini’s borders. Recently, he released a remix single with American singer Akon. Big Flexa, his biggest hit, with more than 45 million YouTube views.
His other songs, such as Nkalakaatha and Phezulu, have also gained popularity. Costa Titch recently discussed the influence of his mother on his music career in interviews. He won fame on a global scale after placing 14th in an international hip-hop dance competition. The inclusion of Izizulu phrases in his songs has increased public interest in them.
Particularly, the untimely demise of a budding rap singer in the nation is the most recent example of ungratefulness in the South African music scene. Riky Rick, a musician who goes by Rikhado Makhado, was discovered dead in February 2022 after what appeared to be a suicide.
