Gjokaj, who portrayed Chief Daniel Sousa in “Agent Carter,” disclosed that he almost played a different character in “Agents of SHIELD,” and he had even appeared as a cop in the 2012 film “The Avengers.”
During a recent interview with TVLine, Gjokaj discussed the unexpected moment when he received a call from the “Agents of SHIELD” team inviting him to reprise his role as Sousa. He mentioned that there had been talks about his potential return for years, initiated by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen. Interestingly, there was a previous occasion where discussions arose about incorporating his character from “The Avengers,” specifically the cop role he portrayed in the film. However, nothing came to fruition in an official capacity regarding that idea.
Nonetheless, Gjokaj expressed his enthusiasm for reprising the character of Sousa and was thrilled to receive the offer. Sousa played a central role in the “Agent Carter” series, which aired for two seasons until 2016.
While Gjokaj has returned to the Marvel Universe, his co-star from “Agent Carter,” Hayley Atwell, who portrayed Peggy Carter, has different plans. Atwell, known for her portrayal of the iconic agent in various Marvel films and the short-lived spin-off series, clarified that she doesn’t intend to make an appearance in “Agents of SHIELD.” After the final season of the show commenced with the team traveling back in time to Peggy’s era, fans had hoped for a potential cameo. However, Atwell swiftly dismissed these rumors on Instagram, responding with a simple “No” along with a peace hand emoji.
Although Atwell won’t physically reprise her role as Peggy, she is lending her voice to the character in the animated series “Marvel’s What If…” on Disney+. This exciting project allows her to continue her involvement in the Marvel universe, albeit in a different medium. Fans can look forward to hearing Atwell bring Peggy’s character to life once again through her voice acting skills.
