A rookie New York City cop has been shot and killed while his accomplice is battling for his life after reacting to a domestic violence call in Harlem.
Jason Rivera, who joined barely a year prior, in November 2020, passed on in the shooting. His accomplice, Wilbert Mora, is now battling for his life.
NYPD Officer Shooting: Who Is Wilbert Mora?
An officer Wilbert Mora joined the New York Police Department (NYPD) in the year 2018. He was one of the two officers who was shot while responding to domestic violence in Harlem.
The pair were reacting to aggressive behavior at home call at around 5:10 pm, including a mother and a child on West 135th Street.
Reportedly, at around 6:30 p.m., the mother called the police for help and met them in front of the apartment at 119 West 135 Street.
The shooter, Lashawn J. McNeil, 47, who was out waiting on the post-trial process at that point, likewise died. A police source said a third officer at the scene, who is generally new to the NYPD, shot McNeil after the two officials were struck by gunfire.
Jason Rivera Partner: Is Wilbert Mora Dead?
Jason Rivera was shot to death at the scene while his partner Wilber Mora was in critical condition. However, multiple reports claimed that both the officers were dead.
As per the police statement, McNeil was in a back room, and the officers went to converse with him and were shot. One of the officers was struck in the face by gunfire.
Similarly, the police had recently reacted to the apartment for domestic violence in August as well. Quickly after the incident, the officers were taken to Harlem Hospital.
