Since January 1981, police have been investigating a series of attacks centering on Castleberry High School cheerleaders in River Oaks, a calm and lush neighborhood of Fort Worth, Texas.
A well-built guy (Wesley Wayne Miller) wearing a ski mask pushed himself on adolescent females and attempted to rape them in all of the instances.
Some of the assaults were startlingly blatant, such as when he raped 18-year-old Lisa Gabbert in her own home while walking past her seriously crippled mother.
The assailant must have known Gabbert, as she was the one who initially noted her attacker’s physique like that of her classmate Miller, according to the police.
Retha Stratton was 18 years old when her roommate discovered her dead on the floor of their flat on January 21, 1982. Her wrists had been slashed, and she had been stabbed 36 times. The murder weapon was still embedded in her chest, and her pants had been jammed into her mouth.
Miller was apprehended by the police at his parent’s house around 48 hours after the murder. He initially denied the killing, but after questioning, he finally admitted to it.
