The aspiring journalist began her career as a cadet reporter at the Townsville Bulletin when she was 21 years old. Vikki’s former deputy editor Ann Roebuck described Vikki as a confident young lady with considerable promise in a post for The Daily Telegraph.

“It was immediately evident when I met Vikki, in 2006. I was deputy editor of the Townsville Bulletin, and I knew this sassy, confident young cadet reporter was going to make a mark,” Roebuck wrote.

Vikki, a dedicated worker, was named News Corps’ Young Journalist of the Year. Vikki worked as a journalist for eight years before shifting into media advisory jobs for politicians.

She has worked with television personalities like Sunrise anchor Samantha Arymtage.

Vikki is a former journalist who worked as an urban affairs correspondent for The Daily Telegraph. Ironically, her old employer, The Daily Telegraph, was the one who published the now-famous pregnant images that revealed her pregnancy.

She transitioned from newspaper journalism to politics, where she worked discreetly behind the scenes for a number of National Party MPs.

Barnaby Joyce Proposed To Vikki Campion

Barnaby Joyce proposed to Vikki Campion four years after the deputy prime minister’s high-profile romance with a political worker was made public.

In January, the proposal took place in Coffs Harbour’s Latitude 30 restaurant.

Joyce told the Guardian Australia that Campion had agreed and that they were both “quite delighted.” He proposed with a New England sourced Parti Sapphire ring.

“She’s very pleased, I’m very happy, and I’m sure the boys are thrilled, but they’re exactly the same, no difference there really,” he remarked.

He said that if Campion had said no, “I would still be getting hammered at Latitude 30.”

He also stated that Noosa was his first choice for the proposal, but “everything was packed out.”

The couple’s romance, which began while Joyce was still married, came to public attention in early 2018 when Sydney’s Daily Telegraph published an image of a very pregnant Campion crossing the street.

The article stated that Campion was pregnant with Joyce’s son Sebastian, who was born in April of that year, essentially ending Joyce’s 24-year marriage to Natalie.

Joyce and Campion have subsequently welcomed another son, Thomas, in 2019.

The then-prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, chastised Joyce at the time for his “terrible lack of judgment,” which had produced a “world of suffering” for the women in his life.

Joyce was finally compelled to resign from his position as a minister when a separate sexual harassment claim was leveled against him.

Joyce stated that he resigned despite the fact that the charge was “spurious and defamatory,” and that a National Party inquiry into the complaint ended without a decision “due to inadequate evidence.”
