Geno Smith is currently the starting quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League.
He was named the starting quarterback following the team’s preseason 27-26 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Friday night.
Smith was seemingly the frontrunner throughout the quarterback competition with Drew Lock, and after Lock threw three interceptions Friday, head coach Pete Carroll announced to begin his postgame news conference.
“Geno’s gonna start.” “He’s gonna start the opener, and he’s earned it, he’s won the job. With the time frames that got messed up for Drew, he just ran out of time,” Carroll said.
Smith is getting a second shot at starting nine years after the New York Jets selected him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
He started 30 games over four seasons with New York Jets but eventually lost his starting position. Now, entering his fourth season with the Seahawks, he’ll debut as the team’s regular-season starter on a huge prime-time stage on September 12 when Seattle hosts the Denver Broncos and quarterback Russell Wilson.
