Tareena Shakil: Where Is She Now?
In 2016, she was sentenced to six years in jail.
She told viewers that if she could go back in time, she would visit Turkey rather than the IS stronghold of Raqqa, Syria.
“If I could return in time, I would,” she remarked.
“I would have taken a vacation to Turkey and then returned.”
That’s what should have happened; I should have gone on vacation for a week and then returned.” According to the documentary, Shakil has been groomed by a recruiter over the past three years.
There is a photo of Shakil of herself carrying an AK47 at one point throughout the video.
“That’s someone who’s lost her way in life and taken a wrong turn,” she explained.

I couldn’t deny that I was aware of the violence inflicted by Isis; I couldn’t argue that I wasn’t since it was all over the news.
“I understand that knowing about the awful things that were going on in that place and still opting to flee, not only on your own but with your child, is difficult for people to comprehend.”
She says that she was unconcerned by the violence at the moment.
“And to simply say you didn’t pay that much attention to it,” she continued, “but that’s what it was, I just, I didn’t.”
“Looking back, it’s not something I’m happy about, but at the time, all I can say is that you know, I wasn’t the best version of myself.”
