He is an actor, who might be known best for his portrayal of Jeremy Gilbert in the horror fantasy series “The Vampire Diaries”, created by Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson, and which aired from 2009 to 2017. It starred Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder, and follows the lives of people living in the city Mystic Falls in Virginia, in which strange creatures co-exist such as werewolves and vampires – the series was a hit, as it won 36 awards and was nominated for 66 others.

For his performance, Steven was nominated for a Youth Rock Award for Rockin TV Actor, and a Teen Choice Award for Scene Stealer Male.

Childhood and education

Steven was raised alongside his three half-siblings Chase, Madison and Jesse Robitaille, by his father Chad McQueen who was an actor and a movie producer, and his mother Stacey Toten who was a housewife. Steven was born into a family of famous actors as his grandfather was Steve McQueen who starred in movies such as “The Cincinnati Kid”, “The Sand Pebbles” and “The Towering Inferno”, while his grandmother was Neile Adams, an actress and dancer, known for her roles in “Women in Chains” and “Chu Chu and the Philly Flash”.

Steven became interested in acting at a very early age as he was motivated by his family, and was a member of his elementary school’s drama club, while he also practiced his acting skills at a local theatre. He continued acting at high school, appearing in nearly all the plays performed there, while he was also interested in playing ice hockey, as his stepfather Robitaille was a professional player who competed in the National Hockey League with the Los Angeles Kings.

Steven matriculated in 2004, and then chose to focus on his acting career rather than pursue a college degree.

Roles in TV series

Steven made his debut TV series appearance in 2005, when he portrayed Jordan Peters in the episode “Blood of the Children” of the science fiction action “Threshold” created by Bragi F. Schut, and which starred Carla Gugino, Brian Van Holt and Bren Spiner – the series is about a team of experts who are investigating an unknown object which appeared somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean.

In 2006, Steven portrayed Kyle Hunter in seven episodes of the drama “Everwood”, which was popular in the USA winning three awards while it was nominated for 33 others. In 2008, he was invited to appear as Craig Ezra in the episode “Atomic No. 33” of the mystery crime drama “Numb3rs”.

The following years saw him appear only in single episodes of several series, such as the mystery crime “Without a Trace” and the action crime drama “CSI: Miami”,

After taking a six-year break from acting, in 2016 Steven appeared as Jimmy Borelli in three episodes of the action crime drama “Chicago P. D.”, then reprised his role in 25 episodes of the spin-off action drama “Chicago Fire” created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, and which starred Jesse Spencer, Taylor Kinney and Eamonn Walker; the series is about the personal and business lives of firefighters working in Chicago, and it won four awards while it was nominated for 22 others.

For his performance, Steven won a Beverly Hills Film Festival Award for Best Male Performance.

1 Knowing that my granddad was a highly respected actor wasn’t necessarily intimidating, but it definitely meant there was always a pressure to live up to his reputation. I think that’s why acting wasn’t something I even considered doing, as a kid.
2 I go to the gym, do some martial arts, and I love poetry. I have a tattoo of my family crest, and another on my back that says ‘The Road Not Taken,’ which is a poem by Robert Frost.
3 I’ve always been attracted to the ‘don’t follow the rules’ type of girl, the rocker girl. I’ve always been attracted to somebody who you can lose yourself in the moment with. You can hang out with her, and it’s like you’re the only two people in the room.
4 I think the beautiful thing about acting is you don’t really know who you are. You’re able to be whatever you want any day during the week. So I really couldn’t see myself being anything else.
5 I’ve learned more and more on each show that I’ve done. I’ve been blessed and I’ve gotten to work with some very talented actors – James Gandolfini, Treat Williams. I’ve kind of always asked for advice and tried to take in as much as I could whenever working with them.
6 I started watching movies my grandpa did, and I saw what an impact they made on the world. That’s when I said, ‘Hey, I want to do that too.’
7 I’ve been watching ‘Dexter’ recently; I love that show. It’s my favorite.
