Stephanie Crane went missing twenty-eight years ago, on October 11, 1993; it was an ordinary day in Challis for practically everyone. That evening, at 9 p.m., nothing in the small calm village was the same.
The Custer County Sheriff’s Office staff had a reasonably quiet day. There had only been two service requests. One was for a Fish and Game Officer to help a wounded buck deer, while the other was for help at the intersection.
Sandi Crane came into the Custer County Sheriff’s Office at 8:16 p.m. that evening to say she couldn’t find her 9-year-old daughter Stephanie, and the community’s peace was shattered.
