Who Is Sindhutai Sapkal Husband Shirhari Sapkal? Daughter Mamta & Family
Shrihari Sapkal was the husband of Sindhutai Sapkal.
She married Shrihari Sapkal under the name Harbaji when she was 12 years old. Her husband had beaten and kicked her in the stomach and thrown her into the safe in the previous three months.
Sindhutai passed out after cutting her umbilical cord with the stone that was lying nearby. Her husband and other members of her family had abandoned her, leaving her to her fate.
She returned to her mother’s village after reawakening, but everyone hated and rejected her. Her mother, too, had shut the door in her face. Sindhutai was alone in the world, caring for her young daughter. She was hungry, and so was the baby.
Hunger pains were too much to bear. She wished to be free of the hunger pangs and people’s cruel ways. She sought refuge in cremation and noticed that a body was on fire.
The last rituals had been performed, and the deceased’s relatives had left. They had left some flour as part of the departed soul’s final ceremonies. Sindhutai grabbed that flour, kneaded it, and made a bhakari (roti) out of it, baking it over the still-burning body.
Sindhutai went from one location to the next, begging and singing. She would sing heartbreaking songs to earn money while she was alone in the world with a baby to look after.
She didn’t have somebody to look up to, and she didn’t belong to anyone. She entrusted her little daughter, Mamata, to the Shrimant Dagaduseth Halwai Trust so that she might be properly cared for.
Sindhutai is helped by her daughter Mamata and son Deepak, as well as her other adult sons, after years of effort.
Sindhutai has a large family, with 207 sons-in-law and 36 daughters-in-law.
