Another fighter beyond the borders of the United States, Sin Cara is actually more of a role than a person. Jorge Arias made his WWE debut as a temporary replacement for Luis Urive who played the wrestling character Sin Cara before him. He would later perform under the moniker Hunico, always wearing a bandana and often fighting as part of a team consisting of him and Camacho.
Since 2013, following the end of Urive’s WWE contract, the Mexican-American wrestler has appropriated the masked persona of Sin Cara. He is also the oldest performer to play this character. Like others before him, Jorge fought under different names and in other lower tier promotions prior to his WWE career. He is a one-time NXT Tag Team Championship winner with Kalisto.
Who is Sin Cara and how old is he?
Jorge Arias was born on September 5, 1977 in ElPaso, Texas to Mexican immigrant parents. Jorge’s talent in the ring began to show when he was at Burges High School in Texas, as evidenced by the numerous state championships he won. He then began his professional career under the name “Mistico” while sharing his career with his parents’ funeral home.
When he started working for Mexico’s AAA wrestling promotion, he polished up his looks and changed his name to Incognito to avoid any legal overlap with his former employer, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL). Moving on from AAA, he worked with a myriad of independent wrestling promotions in Mexico and the United States.
In 2006, he participated in the TNA World X-Cup Tournament as part of Team Mexico. Beginning in September 2007, Jorge Arias spent time with Philadelphia-based promotion Chikara, where he won the Rey de Voladores (“King of the Fliers”) in May 2008.
After joining WWE’s Florida developmental promotion Championship Wrestling, he changed his name to Hunico but retained his previous character’s outfit. As a member of the two-man tag team, Los Aviadores tag team, Hunico won the Florida Tag Team Championship title in June 2010 by defeating The Uso Brothers. They lost the title 12 days later but won it back the next day before losing it for the last time on August 12, 2010.
Exactly one year later, Arias began filling in for Luis Urive as Sin Cara during Luis’ 30-day suspension. Urive returned to his Sin Cara duties on September 16, 2011 and began a feud with Arias who appeared to be a Sin Cara impostor. They clashed several times, eventually ending the feud in a fight where Luis was victorious and unmasked Arias.
Hunico also had a feud with Ted DiBiase and went on an undefeated streak recording wins over Ezekiel Jackson, Justin Gabriel, Yoshi Tatsu and so on. Over the years he also continued to reprise a tag team role with his friend Danny Marlow known as Camacho in the ring.
Arias debuted as Sin Cara on December 2, 2013, the Brut, defeating Alberto Del Rio in the process. The character enjoyed a resurgence with Jorge at the helm and enjoyed a winning streak throughout December that was ultimately killed off by Del Rio.
Mid-2014, Arias who had definitely taken over the character of Sin Cara was sent to NXT. Here he formed a tag team partnership with Kalisto known as The Lucha Dragons. They went on to win the NXT Tag Team Championship, Arias’ first title with WWE. They lost the title on January 28, 2015.
On March 30, 2015, the Lucha Dragons made their Raw debut in an 8-man tag team match. Sin Cara continued to face other fighters with Kalisto and as a sole fighter. He’s taken on the likes of Zack Ryder, Dolph Ziggler, The New Day, The Miz and so on.
After the Lucha Dragons disbanded, Sin Cara officially became part of the Raw brand after being drafted into the 2016 WWE Draft. Here, he had a feud with Braun Strowman before being transferred to SmackDown’s roster following from the 2017 WWE SuperstarShake. Here he fought many stars through the events and recorded victories, including against United States Champion Baron Corbin. On April 8, 2018, he was part of André the Giant’s battle royal. Sin Cara also fought at WWE’s Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27, 2018, but was eliminated at the hands of Dolph Ziggler.
The WWE star made his first video game appearance in WWE ’13 as Hunico. Thereafter, he continued to appear as Sin Cara.
