A jury found Savannah Brockhill guilty in the murder of 16-month-old Star Hobson.
On 22 September 2020, the child died from catastrophic abdominal injuries from blows to the abdomen. Before the final strike, the victim suffered weeks of abuse. In addition to the murderer, the Bradford Crown Court convicted the baby’s mother, Frankie Smith, of causing or allowing the death but cleared her of an alternative count of manslaughter.

During the seven-week trial, jurors heard about the number of injuries the infant from Keighley suffered at different times. Family members confirmed them, stating that they began to notice bruises and marks on Star’s body after Smith began an on-and-off violent relationship with Brockhill.

Many people including, the baby’s former babysitter Hollie Jones, Bradford Council, and the city’s safeguarding agencies, expressed their views on the death. Some regretted how they never saw the warning signs, while others seemed genuinely sad about the situation.
