What is MAID in Canada?
MAID (medical assistance in dying) is the use of medication by a physician or nurse practitioner to directly induce a person’s death at their request and is known as “medical assistance in dying.” It is a sensitive and personal issue.
In June 2016, it became legal in Canada. Doctors and nurse practitioners who supply or assist in the provision of MAID are now exempt from the Criminal Code of Canada.
Changes to Canada’s MAID laws took effect on March 17, 2021. This webpage contains information on the precise modifications made as a result of the new legislation.
