Sam’s career began while he was studying Broadcast News at Eastern Kentucky University, when he interned at WKYT-TV in Kensington, Kentucky. After finishing his degree, he went on to work for WSPD-TV in Paducah, and then at WCWJ in Jacksonville, Florida. By 1988, he had become the weather forecaster for “Eyewitness News” in New York City as part of WABC-TV. These were a good start to his net worth, and his popularity would steadily rise from this point, and even without meteorological training, he did well and employed his broadcasting skills to make up for it.

By 2006, he had become a part of “Good Morning America” which was the start of his net worth increasing considerably, and.he was offered a $1.5 million per year salary by 2012. On top of this, he became the host of “Sea Rescue”, a show that focused on rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing animals.

Sam is known by a few catchphrases, these include “Let’s get to the boards” and “That’s the weather around the nation. Here’s what you can expect this morning”. His work at “Good Morning America” also helped him travel to different countries to get a look at weather and climatic conditions, and he has reported on things from tornadoes to wildfires. He eventually said goodbye to “Good Morning America” in his departure from the show during 2013.

It was later announced that he would join the Weather Channel and have his own show “America’s Morning Headquarters”. The show went on air for more than a year, before he left to become a contributor to the Weather Channel’s primetime shows. He is currently working on a show called “23.5 degrees with Sam Champion”.

Aside from news stations and morning shows, Sam has made numerous television appearances, the most notable being on “Live! with Kelly and Michael” and CNN’s “Larry King Live”.

He was also chairman for the 25th annual March of Dimes Walk America. He hosted the 2002 “Courage Awards” and was also master of ceremonies for the program “Stopping AIDS Together”.

He had previously been diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer. Luckily, it was treated and removed during 2010.
