Rie Hachiyanagi, a former Mount Holyoke College art professor, was found guilty of torturing Lauret Savoy and sentenced to over a decade in a Massachusetts state prison.

Rie Hachiyanagi pled guilty to three counts of armed assault with the intent to harm Lauret Savoy, whom she ‘loved for many years.’

After pleading guilty in Frankling Superior Court last week, she received the sentence on Wednesday.

In December 2019, Hachiyanagi went to Savoy’s house and stated she needed emotional help after a separation. When Savoy allowed her into her house, Hachiyanagi struck her and knocked her down.

She straddled Savoy and confessed to her that she had loved her for a long time and that Savoy should have known. Hachiyanagi then used a rock, a fire poker, and pruning shears to assault her. After four hours of torture, Savoy persuaded Hachiyanagi to contact 911 by telling her she shared her sexual sentiments.

Following that, Savoy claimed she suffered lifelong injuries as well as long-term mental anguish during an emotional statement in court on Friday, October 15.
