Richard provided almost three hours of testimony on 4 November 2021 for Kyle’s trial. Kyle, then 17 years old, shot two people to death while injuring another during the protest against police brutality in Kenosha in 2020.
The video producer was in Kenosha to cover the protest. About 15 minutes before the first shooting that led to the death of Joseph Rosenbaum, he took an interview of the defendant, who described himself as an adult, an EMT, and a medic.
Video evidence capturing the moment of Kyle pulling the trigger isn’t there. However, there is an infrared video from the FBI. In the video, the shooter first pursued Rosenbaum into the used car lot, then Rosenbaum chases Rittenhouse, and finally, the shooting occurs.
Richard also testified the same thing but emphasized the word “lunge.” He stated that the unarmed Rosenabum ran towards Rittenhouse saying “F**k you” and lunged for the rifle, but he dodged and fired four times. After that, the shooter ran away as he left the man lying face down on the ground.
