The 148th Kentucky Derby was won by Rich Strike 80-1 on Saturday, the second-largest shock in the race’s history. As the game appeared to be in the hands of two, a long shot driven by Sonny Leon and aided on the track by coach Eric R. Reed took just seconds to win.

Epicenter and Zanton, the frontrunners, are in charge. Rich Strike arrived after Ethereal Road was eliminated from the tournament on Friday morning. The horse has only competed in seven races.

Similarly, Rich Strike has two games remaining to complete one of the American sports’ most remarkable feats, the Triple Crown.

The “Run for the Roses,” as it is commonly known, is the first event in the Triple Crown series. The Preakness Stakes in Maryland will be held in two weeks, followed by the Belmont States in New York on June 11.

The horse racing business has come under fire in recent years, with scandal after scandal plaguing it. In 2020, 27 persons were charged on federal charges for allegedly participating in a doping program.

The year prior, more than 30 horses perished at Santa Anita Park in California.
