His parents didn’t always support his passion for computer and video games, as Pete pretended to be sick to stay at home to play his favorite games, and skip classes; his mother often didn’t know how to make him tell the truth whether he was feeling really sick or just pretending.

His father also liked playing video games on his console ColecoVision, so it was the first console Pete played. He wasn’t into school friends, preferring staying alone. One of his favorite games when he was a kid was “Super Mario 3”, which he played on his Sega Genesis console, however, Pete once shared that he never completed the game even when he was older and got a Nintendo, as he finds it really tough.

From his early years he was a fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s books from “The Lord of the Rings” series; he also played a lot of “Dungeon and Dragons” role-play games with his school mates.

Educational background

Pete matriculated from his local high school in 2004. He hasn’t revealed any information about further education.

Career

Starting “Pete’s Gaming Room” YouTube channel

As Pete grew up playing old-school computer and video games – his favorite games were “Donkey Kong Jr.” and “The Legend of Zelda”. He decided his full-time work would be uploading videos onto his YouTube channel, and to review and re-play the old games he collected all his life. Pete started his YouTube channel on 18 October 2006; the first video he uploaded was entitled “Geometry Wars Xbox 360 Video Review”, in which he explained why that underrated game really deserved attention. However, it was only in 2008 that Pete made his YouTube channel something more than just a place where he shared his reviews on the games he played. He called his channel “Pete’s Gaming Room” and began uploading videos on a regular basis, trying to balance his hobby with his full-time job.

Pete‘s new games he purchased in his videos tagged as “Games I bought recently”, making shout-outs for many unknown games, which turned out to be interesting and fascinating.

To spread the word about his channel, Pete attended various gaming events, which were few at the time, but by 2009 he had more than 5,000 subscribers to his channel. Pete stated that even though YouTube gave him a great opportunity to share his hobby with other people and meet other gamers who shared his interest, he didn’t want it to interfere massively his life, keeping his gaming and video editing a hobby, as it was. Little is known about his real-life job, except that at one point he worked as a moderator for the GameRankings website.

Ebay Game Hunting sessions on Twitch

Pete started his Twitch channel on 4 January 2009, streaming his playing of such games as the “Final Fantasy” series, “Troll and I” and “The Legend of Zelda”. He also shared his experience of playing such consoles as Virtual Boy, Atari Jaguar, Super Cassette Vision and many other old ones he found ‘crazy’. His favorite genres for streaming are PRGs, Racing and Platformers, and he also specializes on PS1/PS2 games, which only Japan actually imports. His fans also enjoy watching him playing artsy and weird games, old or new. Pete tried himself as a speed-runner, completing games in record time, and being featured on Games Done Quick Events many times.

One of his most popular streams is “Ebay Game Hunting”: Pete searches over the platform to find unique or rare copies of the games he wants to buy for himself, or which his followers have asked him to find.

He monitors the existing offers, gives advices on the prices, and if they are relevant for the game or not. He sometimes finds something really valuable even for himself, buys the game and then unboxes the package in front of his viewers to share his excitement with them.

Retro Game Explorers and latest updates from Pete

Pete is a member of the group named “Retro Game Explorers”, as he is not alone in his passion for old school games. His group mates are BovineDevine, WhatAboutBrunch and Futzegovel; they are all YouTubers and streamers who have their own channels on which they show how they play such games as “Super Mario”, “MegaMan” and “Sonic”. They also have their podcast on Soundcloud, on which they discuss the old games or new ones which they’ve bought recently, and enjoyed or didn’t enjoy playing.

As of 2020, Pete has switched to his Twitch channel, rarely updating his YouTube profile. He also tried to make a profit from his Patreon page he created in 2017, but couldn’t, so he closed it by 2018, fully focusing on his Twitch streaming account, which now has almost 20,000 followers.

Personal life

Pete has never shared any details of his personal life, so there are no rumors of his private life spread around the Internet. So, it’s hard to say if he has a girlfriend at the moment or not. However, his Twitch statistics say he streams almost nine hours on a daily basis, so it may be hard for him to find time for his personal life at the moment.

Hobbies, favorite things and interesting facts

Pete once shared that there were some thing he missed about playing in the ‘90s; he enjoyed having games’ mascots when he was young, as they were quite unique, such as his Bubsy, Rayman and many other toys of popular games’ characters. He also enjoyed playing with his friends offline, meaning back in the days they visited each other’s houses to join in teams and play together, while at the moment all one needs to do is to be online. Pete thinks that the modern style of gaming lacks important social elements.

Pete is a big fan of the movie “Princess Mononoke”, having watched it more than 40 times, and many other films directed by Hayao Miyazaki, such as “Howl’s Moving Castle” (2004), “My Neighbor Totoro” (1988) and “Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea” (2008).

Pete is left-handed, which is not a big deal for him when he writes, but the fact really bothers him when he plays shooting games on portable consoles, such as Nintendo DS, as he can’t use the stylus and the buttons on the controller which are made for right-handed people.

In 2009 Pete enjoyed watching GSN TV game show channel, with a lot of programs Pete found interesting. He likes horror movies, but can’t play horror games; he once had a creepy experience of playing “Resident Evil” and couldn’t deal with the pressure of the game, so when he saw a zombie running after his character, he just switched the game off and from then on hasn’t played any survival horror games. Pete has a hedgehog named Henry, which appeared in the video “My Hedgehog And I Have To Tell You Something…”.

Appearance, clothing style

Pete has dark brown hair which is naturally very curly, formerly wearing it long, but now much shorter. He has brown eyes. His vital statistics are not available. As to his clothing style, he enjoys wearing black T-shirts and hoodies with the prints of his favorite music bands, such as Blind Guardian, and his favorite games, such as Super Sonic.

Net worth and salary

As of 2020, Pete is reported to have a net worth of over $100,000. As he almost abandoned his YouTube channel back in 2016, his profile doesn’t give him any benefit at all, so his main income sources are his offline full-time job, and his Twitch channel.
