Who Is Paul J. Decologero Arrested In Murder Charge Of Whitey Bulger Murder?

Three men, including Paul J. Decologero, a Masacgeusetts’ North Shore gang member, are convicted of killing a Boston gangster James Whitey Bulger. The victim was already 89 while being killed inside a prison.

Whitey was caught in 2011 after a manhunt for 16 years. He was charged with multiple life sentences for his involvement in 11 murders. He was also seen as a ‘snitch’ as he cooperated with the FBI. His family sued the Federal Bureau of Prisons over his death, which the judge dismissed earlier this January.

James ‘Whitey’ Bulger was a notorious crime boss of Boston who was fatally beaten to death in prison by three inmates in West Virginia Prison on 30 October 2018. Charges were placed against Paul J. Decologero, 48, Fotios ‘Freddy’ Geas, 55, and Sean McKinnon, 36.

They repeatedly hit the 89-year-old gangster in the head, killing him inside his cell. They were all in United States Penitentiary Hazleton in Bruceton Mills.

It was known that Bulger was helping the FBI by cooperating with them as a Top Echelon Informant. However, this was kept secret until it was revealed 13 years later via a report from The Boston Globe’s ‘Spotlight’ team, as mentioned by Yahoo News.

Also, Whitey was on the run from 1994 until 2011, when he got caught at the hands of police after 16 years in Santa Monica. He was then convicted of multiple counts of felony and was given several life sentences. The wheelchair-bound gangster was transferred from one federal facility to another until he arrived at USP Hazelton.

But he was declared within a few hours of his arrival inside the prison. He was bleeding when the guard found his body in the cell. A senior law enforcement official revealed he was unrecognizable. In addition, The New York Times also told that eyeballs were either beaten out of the skull or gouged.

According to Justice Department, Paul J. Decologero is detained inside the federal prison system. However, he got moved from the Hazelton Penitentiary after the murder. So now only Geas remains there. Among three suspects, two of them were the main convict.

Decologero and Fotios were the main ones who struck the Whitey right after sometimes he had gotten inside the prison and brought up to his cell. In addition, the two of them are the main suspects for striking Bulger multiple times in his head and are charged with aiding and abetting first-degree murder and assault, resulting in serious bodily injury.

Sean McKinnon got separately charged for making false statements to a federal agent. Freddy also received an additional conviction, which Paul didn’t. Instead, he was convicted of murder by a federal inmate serving a life sentence.

Why Was Paul J. Decologero In Prison Before Whitey’s Murder? His Charges

Decologero was at the tail end of 25 years in prison for racketeering. Further, he was also involved in the 1996 conspiracy, which ended up with the murder of a 19-year-old girl. In addition, Paul J. served for a criminal gang, “DeCologero Crew,” on Masacgeusetts’ North Shore, which his uncle led.

He was also found guilty of buying heroin used to kill the same teenager. But the drug did not take her life, as a result, another gang member broke her neck and buried her remain in the woods after dismembering her.

She was ordered to kill by Paul’s uncle as he feared she would snitch on them and coordinate with the police. But after the conviction for the murder of Whitey, he will be serving in the detection for additional charges.
