Destiny Church Protest Update
New Zealand authorities had to deal with a mass anti-lockdown protest involving more than thousands of people over the weekend.
The protest was a direct breach of lockdown protocols the authorities had set in the country for the safety of their citizens.
Brian Tamaki, the Destiny Church pastor, organized the protest in the name of freedom. The protesters include gang members, young children, and the elderly, with many people not following any social distancing rules.
They were also not wearing masks. Some people wore personalized T-shirts saying ‘pro-choice,’ ‘free to choose,’ ‘free 2 parents,’ and ‘freedom from lockdown.’
Following the protest, more than 40,000 people have signed a petition, demanding Mr. Tamaki’s arrest for his involvement in the event.
The petition says Tamaki should be charged for defying and flouting lockdown rules and encouraging others to break the rules as well.
