Omatie Deobarran was the wife of school teacher Amar Beobarran who worked as a supervisor at Bankers Insurance in Chaguanas.
In the remote town of Barrackpore on Friday night, a primary school teacher cut his wife to death and then died after drinking poison, putting an end to a 14-year marriage on the verge of divorce.

Omatie Deobarran worked as a supervisor at Bankers Insurance in Chaguanas, and on the other hand, Amar was a teacher at the Avocat Vedic Primary School.
Officers went to a report of a possible murder and found the couple’s daughter in the street with her grandma, according to police records.
The girl informed police that her father, armed with a cutlass, came to the back of the home at 7.40 p.m. on Friday and attacked her mother.
She ran for help, alerting her grandma and neighbors. Amar was observed leaving the house with a container of what seemed to be toxic liquid in his hand.

Omatie Deobarran confronted her husband Amar over a threat to expel her from her house an hour before her murder and filmed the argument on her mobile phone.
Omatie was stabbed many times and died on the spot, while her husband died hours later in the hospital.
She was found face down in the back of the home, with cut wounds on her left hand and the left side of her neck.
Amar was carried to the Princes Town District Health Facility before being moved to the San Fernando General Hospital, where he died just after 1.30 a.m.
