Nina spent her childhood on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio and went to Rocky River High School, matriculating in 1970. During high school she was a part of the band, which included her high school sweetheart; she was the singer and keyboardist of the group.

Before her career as a broadcaster began, Nina featured naked in the August 1978 issue of Playboy, as a part of the pictorial “The Girls in the Office”. In 1981, when MTV began airing, Nina was selected as one of five VJs, including Mark Goodman, J. J. Jackson, Alan Hunter, and Martha Quinn. She worked for MTV until 1986, when she left for Entertainment Tonight. There, she got her own show – “Rock Report” – and also served as host of the TV music show “Solid Gold” (1986-1988). This increased her net worth to a large degree.

Apart from MTV and Entertainment Tonight, Nina also contributed to VH1, The Discovery Channel, MSNBC, and appeared on Access Hollywood and A Current Affair.

Apart from television, Nina has also become influential through radio; back in 1999, she started a nationally syndicated radio show for United Stations Radio Network called Nina Blackwood’s Absolutely 80’s, with the help of Danny Sheridan, who was her manager/producer. After the success of the initial show, the two teamed up again to launch the ‘80’s alternative-themed Nina Blackwood’s New Wave Nation, which aired until 2014. Furthermore, she is the host of a weekend show on Sirius XM Radio The ‘80s on 8 from 1 to 4 pm Eastern, and is the host of The Big ‘80s Top 40 Countdown, which airs on weekends on Sirius XM Radio.

Nina is an accomplished actress as well; she made her debut in 1982 in the film “Vice Squad”, and since then showcased her acting skills in such titles as “Reckless Kelly” (1993), “I Crave Rock & Roll” (1996), and will appear in the drama “Citizens”, which is scheduled for release in 2018.
