Mellody Hobson is well known as the second and the current wife of the American filmmaker George Lucas.
Hobson is an American businesswoman who is the president and co-CEO of Ariel Investments, and the chairwoman of Starbucks Corporation.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Hobson was educated at Ignatius College Prep in Chicago and Princeton University.
Right after completing university, Hobson joined Ariel Investments, a Chicago investment firm that manages nearly $13 billion in assets as an intern. She went on to become the company’s senior vice president and director of marketing.
She is a regular contributor on financial issues on CBS This Morning and was formerly a spokesperson for the annual Ariel/Schwab Black Investor Survey.
Hobson began dating film director and producer George Lucas in 2006 after they met at a business conference.
In January 2013, the pair announced their engagement married on June 22, 2013, at Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch.
Hobson and Lucas have one daughter, Everest Hobson Lucas, who was born through surrogacy in August 2013.
