According to New York Post, Mire ambushed Gauber, a 19-year veteran State Trooper, in his car in Ascension Parish.

After shooting the veteran trooper, Mire went on a killing spree and shot two other people in Livingston Parish. The victims were a woman, who was shot twice in the arm and leg, and a man who was shot once in the arm.
He also shot two more victims in Ascension. One of the victims, 37-year-old Pamela Adair died of her injuries. Another victim, Joseph Schexnayder, age 43, was rushed to the hospital and is in critical but stable condition.
The police suspect Mire attempted to fire another state trooper who had tried to stop him.
Although he did not hurt the trooper, he managed to escape the scene and fled on foot.
