Mark McMorris suffered life-threatening injuries in the Backcountry snowboarding accident near Whistler in 2017.
He was immediately rushed to the Vancouver hospital and was diagnosed with a broken jaw, broken left arm, ruptured spleen, stable pelvic fracture, rib fractures, and a collapsed left lung.
He was with his brother, Craig, and other friend when he went to the snowboarding area to film his tricks.
Craig later spoke that while he took a jump, he made a rather uncommon mistake and went a little further.
On the left side, Mark ran into some trees and suffered a heavy crash.
It took him months to recover to which the athlete said that he felt as if he was going to die.
Only 11 months after the Backcountry accident, McMorris won the bronze medal in the Winter Olympics of 2018.
