Meng Wanzhou is accused of financial fraud charges. She was arrested in Vancouver on a U.S. extradition request over allegations she violated international sanctions against Iran.
She alleged lied about Huawei’s hidden subsidiary, Skycom. U.S. authorities claimed she gave misleading information about selling Huawei’s shares to Skycom.
The authorities also claimed Meng avoided travel to the United States since April 2017 after she became aware of the investigation, as per CBC News.
In 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice indicted her on charges of trade secrets theft. She has been finally released on bail and is required to wear a GPS ankle monitoring bracelet.
She will also be confined to her home from 11 p.m to 6 a.m; however, she is allowed to travel around the Lower Mainland with security guards.
