Elizabeth “Nikki” Wilhoite, 41, is thought to have been beaten in the head and then dropped in shallow water.
The body of Elizabeth “Nikki” Wilhoite was discovered in a creek at 3 a.m., according to Indiana State Police.
Indiana Nikki Wilhoite’s husband has been arrested and charged with the murder of his wife.
After failing to show up for work on Friday morning, Wilhoite was reported missing.
Using K-9 bloodhounds, Boone County sheriff’s deputies scoured the area around Wilhoite’s home for many hours but were unable to locate her.
Sheriff Mike Nielsen turned the investigation over to Indiana State Police once it was discovered that Wilhoite’s disappearance was possibly a homicide.
Because Andrew Wilhoite’s mother is a County Councilwoman and an elected official, Nielsen identified a potential conflict of interest.
ISP determined that Andrew Wilhoite struck Elizabeth Wilhoite in the head with a blunt object, knocking her out, during their investigation. He then loaded her into a car and drove her body to a nearby creek, where he dumped it.
Early Saturday morning, police discovered Elizabeth Wilhoite’s body partially buried in nearly three feet of water.

Andrew Wilhoite, 39, of rural Lebanon, faces a preliminary charge of murder for the death of 41-year-old Elizabeth “Nikki” Wilhoite.
He is being held in the Boone County Jail on felony murder charges.
