Although it is impossible to say when Slim fell in love with this game of handball, it is no secret that he began to take this sport seriously while he was a student at Santa Fe High School, located in his hometown. He is said to have blazed for the Santa Fe basketball team so much that he earned The Oklahoman’s Super 5 first-team honor. That’s not all, he was also named as part of the Oklahoma Coaches Association’s Large West All-State Team.

1. His College Create
After Josh’s phenomenal performance in high school, it was no wonder he continued to play college football with the University of Tennessee-Knoxville Volunteers. His time in Tennessee lasted from 2011 to 2015, and while this guy was able to earn a degree in psychology, his college basketball accomplishments got all the attention. If you check his records with the volunteers, you will find that he played a total of 136 games for the college team in which he started in 110.
It is said that he was ranked 3rd on the school’s all-time ranking list in terms of number of games played. More than that, he finished with 1252 points which entered in 28th place, 147 steals ranked as 10th and 88 blocks which brought him to 16th position. All in all, he had a fine collegiate career.
2. How he started his professional career
The Miami Heat came for Josh Richardson in the 2015 NBA Draft and selected him in the second round with the 40th overall pick. He then signed a three-year contract with the team in August. Josh couldn’t settle into the team immediately, as he was assigned to Skyforce from Sioux Falls of the NBA G-League in December. Luckily, he was recalled the following month and that marked the start of his regular NBA exploits.
For the 2015-16 season and the 2016-17 season, Josh appeared in a total of 105 games in which he started only 36, scoring an average of 8.4 points and scoring 40 times in double digits. As you will see later, this is not the only highlight of his career. Either way, JR has been such an outstanding player for the Heat that the team decided to give him a 4-year contract extension worth $42 million. It was in September 2017.

Josh Richardson has been a good B-baller since he was in high school. Recall that we mentioned he received Oklahoman’s first-team Super 5 honor and was named to the Large West All-State Team before he left high school? In college, this basketball player was on the SEC All-Around Defense Team in 2014 and 2015. Last year, he was also on the SEC’s First Training Team.
Hardly anyone would disagree with you if they insist that Josh’s best days in the NBA are yet to come. Nonetheless, he was able to assert himself immensely by winning the NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month award for the month of March during his rookie campaign.

Josh’s family has been one of his strongest support systems and his family life revolves around his parents and older sister. We explained that his mother, Alice Richardson, was an ordained Baptist minister and a retired US Air Force Lt. Col. Her husband, Josh’s father, was a firefighter in Oklahoma City. J-Rich’s sister, Alex Richardson, is also a basketball player. It is said that she played for Oklahoma State University and then moved to Central Oklahoma University, where she continued to live with her passion for sports and playing volleyball.
