After graduating from high school, Aldean and his band performed at bars and festivals throughout the Southeastern United States with the assistance of his father. With band member Justin Weaver, he began writing and recording original music.
In 1998, he played songs from his first album at an Atlanta showcase, when Michael Knox of the Warner-Chappell song-publishing organization discovered him. At the age of 21, Aldean signed with Warner-Chappell and relocated to Nashville.
