The 2018-19 high school basketball season was not the time for Jamir Chaplin to reinvent himself as a player.

That was unnecessary, given that he was a first-team All-State selection from Meadowcreek’s Class AAAAAAA state championship team from last year.

There was no need to change the 6-foot-4 senior’s role much this season since he had already established himself as a team leader.

In the wake of losing three starters from last year’s championship team to graduation and a few high-profile newcomers, Chaplin decided it was time for a change in how and what he did for the Mustangs.

In this year’s championship game, the Mustangs were beaten by nationally ranked and undefeated McEachern 62-54. Still, Chaplin and the Mustangs proved that they could adapt to a different roster to make another deep tournament run.
