Who Is Ian Montgomery AKA Jason Montgomery?

Ian Montgomery is the real name of the son of Candy Montgomery, the housewife who killed her neighbor Betty Gore with 41 hits by an axe. In the series, his name is changed to Jason. The Montgomerys have since moved to different places around the United States.

Ian is the son of Candy and Pat Montgomery. The couple married in the early 1970s. Candy was a secretary for a company, whereas Pat was an electrical engineer. The couple gave birth to two children, a daughter named Jennifer and a son named Ian.

After Candy was declared innocent on October 29, 1980, the family moved out of Wylie, Texas. The family reportedly relocated to the new state of Georgia, where they reportedly still reside.

The exact whereabouts of the family, however, are currently unknown. Candy’s kids’ names are changed in the series to Becky and Jason, whereas in the 1990 tv movie, A Killing in a Small Town, their names are changed to Sara and Sean.

A Closer Look At The Incident And The Trial

Candy had a months-long affair with Betty’s husband, Allan, whom she had met through their activities in the church. The relationship started after both were dissatisfied with their married life. Though initially vowed to keep the affair strictly physical, Candy grew more attached to Allan. The two broke their affair after the birth of Gore’s second child.

The incident took place on June 13, 1980, when Candy went to Betty’s home to pick up their daughter Alisa for swimming lessons. Betty grew upset after learning of the affair and charged Candy with the axe. The two fought for the control of the weapon before Candy prevailed, hitting Gore 41 times and eventually killing her.

Montgomery confessed to the killing but maintained the statement that she did so in self-defense and was acquitted of murder. It was later revealed that childhood trauma had triggered Candy to a dissociative rage state and she was declared not guilty after a lengthy trial. Candy was 30 years old at that time.
