The youngest competitor in the women’s 58 kilograms category at the 2008 Summer Olympics, she has now won the first-ever gold medal for the Philippines on 26 July 2021, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for the women’s weightlifting. On the course of her gold medal, she set the Olympic record for the 55kg category by lifting a total of 224kg.

Who Is Hidilyn Diaz? Everything On Her Parents
Hidilyn Diaz is a professional weightlifter who has competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In 2016, she ended the Philippines’ 20-year Olympic medal drought with a silver medal in the women’s 53-kg weight class.
She was born to her parents, Eduardo and Emelita Diaz, as the fifth of six children. Her father was a tricycle driver who later transitioned to farming and a fisherman. As for her mother, nothing particular has been disclosed to the public.
Although Diaz is now known worldwide as a weightlifter, she had different plans growing up. Apparently, she wanted to be a banker and tried several sports, like basketball and volleyball. However, she learned the basics from her cousin, Allen Jayfrus Diaz.
Despite attending the Universidad de Zamboanga to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer science, she stopped attending as a third-year. She found out that the degree was unsuitable for her.
At the 2016 Summer Olympics, Diaz tasted success in weightlifting, which allowed her to pursue a degree related to sports. She then received a scholarship to study business management at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in January 2017.

Hidilyn Diaz’s boyfriend is Julius Naranjo.
Her boyfriend is a former weightlifter who competed for Guam in international competitions. He is currently a weightlifting coach, a strength and conditioning coach, and a filmmaker.
