Haider Sher Ali from DC is arrested by the FBI after more than a dozen FBI agents burst into a luxury apartment complex in Southeast Washington.
He has spent more than two years claiming to be an officer or worker of the Federal Government, according to court records.
The FBI was warned off when a US Postal Service inspector interrogated the duo as potential witnesses to an unrelated incident in the same building. They used to reside in that building until they moved out a week ago.
According to criminal documents, federal prosecutors said the individuals pretended to be law enforcement, including the DHS. He was arrested along with his friend Arian Taherzadeh on Thursday.
They are suspected of impersonating members of a phony Department of Homeland Security panel investigating gang activity and the Capitol rioting on January 6.
The pair, whose nationalities have not been identified, is claimed to have been driving about in an official-looking SUV with flashing lights.
According to Daily Mail, they are believed to have successfully courted Secret Service officers. Living in rent-free luxury residences, high-end devices, and policing equipment are some of the benefits that they have acquired.
Sher Ali and Arian, are also accused of providing a USSS agent with a luxury condominium worth more than $40,000 per year. They are due to appear in US District Court in Washington, DC on Thursday.
