In 2019, Sir Frank celebrated 50 years as a Formula One team owner, having led two teams during that time, the latter of which won seven drivers’ titles and nine constructors’ crowns.
Sir Frank began limiting his duties in F1 in 2012, when he stood down from the Williams board, after suffering spinal cord damage in a vehicle accident in 1986 that rendered him unable to walk.
Claire assumed the role of family spokesperson and was eventually promoted to Deputy Team Principal, in charge of day-to-day operations; however, Sir Frank retained the title of Team Principal.
In 2016, he spent time in the hospital recovering from pneumonia, and as a result, he ceased competing. In December of last year, he was also admitted to the hospital.
