Ginger Zee Wiki Biography

Meteorologist by profession, Ginger Renee Zuidgeest was born on 13 January 1981 in Orange County, California USA, to a Dutch father and mother of German ancestry, and is famously known by her pseudonym Ginger Zee. Currently working as a weather anchor of ABC’s “Good Morning America”, Ginger Zee is surely not a usual television anchor, as she is not only a scientist, but also an avid adventurer who has covered myriads of major weather events for ABC News, including dozens of historic damaging storms.

Ginger Zee is one of the most prominent TV figures, having a net worth estimated by sources of $450,000 as of early 2016. Ginger receives a salary of $100,000 per year from ABC News against her work as Chief Meteorologist and Weather Editor. Furthermore, from her other public appearances, she is reputed to earn another $400,000, which suggests that her current wealth may be an under-estimate. She and her husband Ben live in a luxurious NYC apartment, and Ginger also owns a 40,000-square-foot large gym having a luxurious swimming pool, basketball court, golf simulator, and bowling alley, the value of which is indeterminate, but may explain her ‘net’ figure.

As an eight year old, Zee decided that she wanted to be a meteorologist. She was educated at Rockford High School in Michigan, then in 1999 she entered Valparaiso University (‘Valpo’), Indiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in meteorology. Soon afterwards she started working for various media outlets that included WEYI-TV, WLAV-FM, and WOOD-TV in Michigan, and finally WMAQ in Chicago, Illinois. After that the NBC-owned station asked Zee to fill in on the weekend edition of ‘The Today Show’. Her net worth began to build.

Zee made her first television appearance in 2011 on ‘Good Morning America Weekend’, which gave her some prominence, as her good looks were immediately recognised by viewers. Since then she has been unstoppable, subsequently appearing on ‘Nightline’ and ABC ‘World News’ followed by, in 2013 ABC News announcing her as chief meteorologist for ‘Good Morning America’ and the weather editor for ABC news.

In her personal life, in 2014 Ginger married Ben Aaron Colonomos, a TV personality currently working for WNBC-TV New York, and they have a son. Ginger Zee chose to retain her professional name in public after her marriage. Her journey in life has been full of challenges – at the age of 21 she was diagnosed with narcolepsy, a chronic neurological disorder that is characterized by an extreme tendency to fall asleep in relaxing surroundings. This led her to be a member of ‘Wake Up Narcolepsy’, a non- profit organization that helps victims of this disorder.

Additionally, every Wednesday she makes it a special point to talk to school children about weather and meteorology. She is also an adjunct professor at her alma mater, the Valparaiso University.
