She began his racing career in karts in 1993 and advanced to Formula Ford in 1998. She moved up to V8 Supercar in 2001 with Garry Rogers Motorsport and in 2002 with Fleetcare Racing after mixed success there.
She raced her father Mark’s Mazda RX-7 in Improved Production racing for the next three seasons, winning the Victorian and New South Wales championships in 2005 and driving in the Australian Production Car Championship for Team Toyota Australia in 2004.
Tander originally drove a Formula 3 vehicle in 2005, competing in three rounds, before moving to the Australian Formula Three Championship full-time in 2006, where she became the first female to win a race.
