Gabrielle grew up in a family dedicated to arts; her father, Tariq Anwar, is a film producer and editor, while her mother Shirley, is an actress. While young Gabrielle decided to focus on acting, and after high school, she enrolled the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London, where she studied drama and dance.

Gabrielle made her debut while she was a teenager, in the role of Tracy Wright in the TV series “Hideaway” (1986). Gabrielle also made her film debut in the ’80s, in a cameo role in the film “Manifesto” (1988), and also landed parts in the TV series “Summer’s Lease” (1989), and “Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader” (1989), which only helped her boost her career.

In the 1990s, Gabrielle`s career blossomed, as she gained several supporting and leading roles, including in “If Looks Could Kill” (1991), with Richard Greico and Linda Hunt, “Wild Hearts Can`t be Broken” (1991), alongside Cliff Robertson, “Body Snatchers” (1993), “For love Or Money” (1993), with Michael J. Fox, and “The Grave” (1996) among others, which added a considerable amount to her net worth.

With the beginning of the 2000s, her career began slowly to decline, but still she landed parts in films “If You Only Knew” (2000), “The Guilty”, “Water Under the Bridge” (2003), “9/Tenths” (2006) – in which she was the lead, however, the film received mixed reviews – “The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines” (2006). In 2007, Gabrielle`s career reignited with the roles of Fiona Glenanne in the TV series “Burn Notice”, which aired until 2013, and the role of Princess Margaret in “The Tudors”, but her character was cancelled after the first season.

Quote
1 I’ve been hounded by a reputation of being difficult when really what I’m being is truthful and honest. And I think that’s been a thorn in my side. I auditioned for a lot of work and got some good feedback, and then was told I wasn’t the choice.
Fact
1 (August 30, 2015) Married for the 2nd time her boyfriend of 5 years Shareef Malnik following a 14-month-long engagement in a intimate outdoor ceremony who was held as the sun set over the rolling hills of The Ranch at Rock Creek in Phillipsburg, Montana. The Western-themed wedding weekend culminated in a gorgeous ceremony where 150 guests rocked 1800s Wild West Period Costumes – the dress code was described as “Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid meets Little House on the Prairie meets 1800s Bordello”. A talented seamstress and designer in her own right, Anwar, 45, made her own wedding gown working from patterns of the late 1800s. Fashioning pieces of Victorian blush lace lingerie between the bones of an ivory bodice, the actress also designed a removable silk bustle to keep with the 1800s Wild West theme. The couple kept the wedding party all in the family: Anwar’s daughter, Willow, 21, was the maid of honor; her son Hugo, 14, was ring bearer; and daughter Paisley, 11, was the flower girl. On the groom’s side, Shareef, 57, had his father, Al Malnick, as his best man, while his son Yaseen, 30, was a groomsman and his grandson Shams, 6, served as banner bearer.

5 Has a step-son named Yaseen Malnick (b.1985).
6 Became an American citizen in 2008.
7 Chose acting to keep from going to school. She felt the competition at drama school was too stiff and dropped out at age 15. So after landing a role in the BBC miniseries Hideaway (1986), she just kept working.
8 Said in an interview for her show Burn Notice (2007) that Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken (1991) is her favorite of all her films.

15 Went to the same high school as her Press Gang (1989) cast mate Julia Sawalha; however, she was a few grades below Julia.
