CNN Wall Street Journal reporter arrested in Russia on spying charges
American reporter for the Wall Street Journal was detained by Russian authorities and charged with spying.
This marks a significant escalation in Moscow’s hostility toward the United States as well as its campaign against foreign news organizations, which has come under intense pressure ever since President Vladimir Putin began his full-scale invasion of Ukraine last year.
The primary security agency of Russia, the FSB, asserted on Thursday that Moscow-based journalist Evan Gershkovich had been attempting to acquire state secrets.
In a statement, The Wall Street Journal stated that it “vehemently denies the charges from the FSB and requests the prompt release of our trusted and loyal writer.” The Wall Street Journal strongly disputed such accusations.
