Unraveling the Talented Ethan Slater: From Wrestling to Starring in “Wicked”
Ethan Slater, a multi-talented actor, singer, writer, and composer, has made waves in both the entertainment industry and the world of sports. While he may not have been a professional wrestler, he does have a connection to the sport from his high school days. In a recent interview, Slater revealed that he was a wrestler during his high school years, and one of his go-to defensive moves was pushing back into a split. This physical training came in handy when he took on the role of Boq in the highly-anticipated live-action film adaptation of the Broadway show “Wicked.”
In the upcoming film, directed by Jon M. Chu, Slater portrays Boq, a munchkin boy who develops a crush on Glinda, played by the talented Ariana Grande. The film, split into two parts, is set to debut in November 2024, and Slater’s portrayal of Boq is garnering much attention and praise.
While rumors have recently surfaced about Ariana Grande dating Ethan Slater, it’s important to note that both TMZ and People reported that the two started dating after their previous relationships had ended. Slater was previously married to singer Lilly Jay, and they celebrated their four-year wedding anniversary in November 2022. Despite the speculation surrounding their romantic relationship, Grande and Slater are set to share the screen in “Wicked,” and fans eagerly await their on-screen chemistry.
Before making his mark in the film industry, Slater captured hearts on Broadway as the beloved SpongeBob SquarePants in the hit musical “SpongeBob SquarePants.” His outstanding performance earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical in 2018, as well as numerous other accolades, including a Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Theater World Award, and two Broadway.com Audience Awards.
Beyond his career achievements, Ethan Slater is also a devoted father. He shares a one-year-old son with his former high school sweetheart, Lilly Jay. Growing up in Silver Spring, Maryland, Slater’s journey to success took him to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he honed his talents and skills.
Slater’s acting credits also include appearances on popular TV shows like “Murphy Brown,” “Instinct,” and “Fosse/Verdon.” His versatility as an artist shines through in his work as an actor, singer, and composer.
As the release of “Wicked Part 1” approaches, fans eagerly anticipate seeing Ethan Slater bring Boq to life alongside Ariana Grande’s Glinda. His dynamic performances on both stage and screen continue to captivate audiences worldwide, solidifying his status as a rising star in the entertainment industry.
