Paralympics swimmer Elena Krawzow has a disability of a disease called Stargardt disease.
Stargardt disease is the most prevalent hereditary single-gene retinal disorder.
This disease is generally inherited autosomally recessively due to abnormalities in the ABCA4 gene. It is hardly autosomal dominant owing to ELOVL4 or PROM1 gene abnormalities.
Similarly, Elena falls under S12/SB12/SM12 disability class. The disability swimming classifications S12, SB12, and SM12 are used to classify swimmers based on their level of impairment.
What Happened To Elena Krawzow? Brain Tumor Status Update
On October 16, 2021, Elena Krawzow announced that she was diagnosed with a brain tumor during an MRI.
The swimmer stated through her Instagram post with the caption: “Since Tokyo, I have been plagued by headaches and dizziness.”
Elena says she had an MRI using a contrast agent, which revealed a tumor in the upper left hemisphere of her brain.
Also, she stated that now it is time to wait two painfully long weeks until all of the findings are out.
Krakow further wrote: “Now I have to take care of my health first, but if everything goes well, I will return to competitive sports! Promised”
Elena Krawzow Parents And Family Origin
Paralympic Games winner Elena Krawzow was born to her parents in Novowoskresenowka, Kazakhstan.
Later, Elena and her family relocated to Germany when she was 12 years old. Moreover, her family is originally from Kazakhstan.
Elena has been living in Germany for over 15 years; so, she and her family both have German citizenship.
Likewise, she stated that her mother was proud of me for becoming the first Paralympic athlete to appear on the cover of Playboy.
Furthermore, Elena said that her relatives in Kazakhstan found it hard to understand why she did what she did.
